Allan Holmquist is the 2023 Chair of the Worship Committee.
The Worship Committee oversees a variety of important events throughout the calendar year. For instance they commemorated Second Presbyterian’s 125 years of ministry and scheduled a number of special events during worship to celebrate. They also dedicated new English hymnals creating bookplates with memorials and honorariums. Further, they oversaw the February Souper Bowl of Caring Sunday. The Committee works with other Presbyterian Churches such as First Presbyterian and Camino de Vida to have joint services during the Lenten Season. During the rest of the year some of their responsibilities include coordinating celebrations for new graduates, arranging a Fourth of July picnic, overseeing All Saints Day, holding trainings for lay readers, ushers, and Deacons, and preparing for the Advent Season. The Committee is skilled at ensuring many members of the congregation and friends of the church are included in the various aspects of worship.
The Worship Committee, in coordination with the pastor and director of music, is responsible for planning and designing a meaningful order of bilingual worship for each Sunday of the year, as well as for the festivals and seasons of the Christian year. The Committee shall be comprised of at least six individuals, one of whom shall be an active elder appointed by the Session to serve as the chairperson.
