Al Sanchez and Gabe Van Dyke are the 2023 Chair of the Security Ministry Committee
Security Ministry Mission
The mission of the Second Presbyterian Church Safety Committee is to maintain an open, welcoming worship experience by enhancing our awareness of church safety and security to enrich our community of observant Christians.
Objective
The primary objective of the Security Ministry is to shift our church culture to one of proactive rather than reactive attention through development and maintenance of a Church Safety and Security Plan.
Responsibility
The Security Ministry (SM) is responsible for identifying possible security concerns and making recommendations to the Session for risk mitigation. Members of the SM will conduct periodic rounds of the interior and exterior of the facility to identify areas of concern. The Security Ministry will develop standard procedures for responding to likely safety or security incidents.
Role of the Observant Usher
The Observant Usher (OU) is charged with maintaining an awareness of happenings during worship. There are three identified OU positions to be covered during each service: 1) Sanctuary Door, 2) Rear of Sanctuary, 3) Between J.I. Candelaria Wing and Choir Loft. All positions are currently manned by volunteers. In the event of any disturbance or emergency (medical or safety related), the OU’s are charged with making contact with Emergency Services (911), and coordinating an appropriate response. At 10:35 the OU in position 2 is responsible for locking the door to the Fellowship Hall. At the end of the service, the OU in Position 3 will accompany a “Counter” and the offering from the Sanctuary to the safe.
